Welcome to My Corner of North Carolina
When I moved to Asheboro, I wasn't just looking for a new place to live—I was looking for a community to become part of.
As a newcomer to both Asheboro and North Carolina, I'm approaching this community with fresh eyes and genuine curiosity. Every town has stories worth telling, and I believe the best journalism begins by listening.
My educational background—a journalism degree paired with a Master of Business Administration—gives me a perspective that blends storytelling with analysis. I enjoy digging into budgets, public records and policy decisions just as much as I enjoy sharing the human stories that define a community. Numbers matter, but so do the people behind them.
Long before I worked in finance, government and public policy, I earned a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism because I believed stories had the power to inform, connect and strengthen communities. Early in my career, I worked as a journalist before the industry underwent dramatic changes that reshaped local news. As digital media transformed the profession, I pursued opportunities in business, finance and public service, carrying with me the skills that journalism had taught me: ask questions, verify facts and seek the complete story.
That journey led me through a remarkably diverse career. I have served in elected office for over a decade, held leadership roles in economic and tourism development, helped shape public policy, and served on nonprofit and community boards dedicated to improving the lives of others, including organizations supporting children who have experienced abuse. I've also volunteered in neighborhood leadership, believing that strong communities are built by people willing to invest their time and energy where they live.
Professionally, I spent years in financial management and executive leadership. I managed financial operations for a global company with profit and loss responsibilities spanning 17 currencies, provided oversight of multimillion-dollar public funds and federal grants, and helped secure more than $1 million in grant funding. In recognition of that work, I was honored as Government Financial Manager of the Year by a local chapter of the Association of Government Accountants.
My newsroom won't be driven by political agendas or sensational headlines. My goal is to provide thoughtful, fact-based reporting on the people, businesses, local government, history and issues shaping Asheboro and the surrounding region. Sometimes that may mean explaining a city budget in plain language. Other times it may mean highlighting a local entrepreneur, covering a community event or exploring the history that makes this area unique.
As someone new to North Carolina, I don't claim to have all the answers. What I do bring is a commitment to learning, asking informed questions and earning the trust of the community one story at a time.
Whether you've lived here your entire life or newly arrived, I hope you'll find something here that informs you, introduces you to someone new or encourages you to look at Asheboro through a different lens.
Thank you for reading. I'm excited to begin telling the stories that make this community special.
